The Ford Explorer is having an incredible 2020 so far, celebrating big sales milestones, an in-demand ST performance trim, and plenty of new faces behind the wheel. For 2021, Ford isn’t taking its foot off the pedal, bringing back the popular XLT Sport Appearance Package.
Just in time for the model’s 30th anniversary this year, the 8 millionth Explorer was sold in January. It’s the perfect capper to three decades of dominance for the Explorer, which is America’s all-time bestselling SUV.
Don’t expect the Explorer to ease back any time soon, though. The new 400-power Explorer ST is bringing in new customers and drawing 21 percent of all Explorer sales with its combination of rear-wheel-drive performance, muscular capability, and upscale interior finishes. According to IHS Markit, the ST is even convincing luxury buyers to switch over to Ford.
For the 2021 model year, the Explorer sees the return of the oft-requested XLT Sport Appearance Package. Coming in the summer, this package will feature exterior touches like Carbonized Gray 20-inch wheels; a special grille, skid plates, and hood lettering; and chrome exhaust tips. Inside, door trim panels and the center console lid will coordinate with ActiveX Light Slate two-tone seats.
