Safety is a top priority at Ford — something that was recently highlight by the Ford F-150 in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash testing. This popular pickup truck recently received the highest possible “Good” rating from the IIHS in every category, making the Ford F-150 IIHS passenger-side safety ratings the best among the 11 light-duty crew cab trucks tested.
“F-150’s smart engineering, plus the innovative combination of its high-strength steel frame and high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body continues to demonstrate enduring customer benefits — from repeated class-leading crash test performance to best-in-class towing and payload,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing.
To help the F-150 receive its solid passenger-side safety ratings in the small overlap front crash test, Ford utilized multiple innovations to work together and keep passengers safe. A patented extruded aluminum roof crossmember and additional frame crossmember worked together to improve its structure, while nylon hinge pillar reinforcements reduced weight while also worked to control crash forces.
This accolade from the IIHS follows on the heels of the 2019 F-150 crew cab receiving a five-star overall crashworthiness rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — the highest rank this organization gives out.
