Ford’s Delivery Robot Digit Could Change Delivery System

The world is becoming more and more reliant on artificial intelligence. From Alexa to the use of robots in manufacturing, there’s no doubt that robots are beginning to take over. That’s why it should come as no surprise that Ford has been working on creating a new delivery robot called Digit.

Created out of a partnership between Ford and Agility Robotics, Digit is a solution for helping delivering packages become autonomous. Ford’s delivery robot has a range of human-like abilities to help get packages from point A to point B. After all, with self-driving vehicles delivering packages most of the way to their destination, it’s important that we have a way to get the packages from the vehicle to your front door.

Digit is a two-legged robot that can walk like a human. According to Ford Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Ford Research and Advanced Engineering Dr. Ken Washington, “Built out of lightweight material and capable of lifting packages that weigh up to 40 pounds, Digit can go up and down stairs, walk naturally through uneven terrain, and even react to things like being bumped without losing its balance and falling over.”

The goal of Digit is to make deliveries both more convenient and efficient. It’s a look at what we could move towards into the future — an entirely autonomous society. Whatever the future holds for Ford, you’ll find it right here at Shults Ford.
